The Shakespeare Summer School for 7 – 11 year olds is an interactive, fun and physical introductions to the world of Shakespeare. We feel passionately about providing access to and ownership of Shakespeare through an exciting and totally interactive approach. We do not rehearse a production so no former knowledge or experience of Drama or Shakespeare is required.

The Young Actors Summer School for 11 – 16 year olds is a chance for budding actors to work with a professional theatre director on contemporary & classic texts, monologues, stage craft, audition technique & physical theatre. Both courses are written, created and overseen by professional theatre director & producer Yvonne Murphy whose credits include National Theatre, English Shakespeare Co, Sherman Theatre & Shakespeare Schools Festival.

Covid19 2020 Summer Schools Cancellation Notice

We wanted to just say thank you to every young person who has taken part in our summer schools each year since 2008. Thank you to every parent/carer and supporter. And thank you to the many who have come and helped us deliver them, hosted them, supplied props & costumes, distributed publicity & helped us reach people with our scholarships. Your support over the last 12 years has enabled us to continue working as artists & creatives.

Our own children have grown up with our summer schools. We ran the first one when our eldest was seven. He is now 19 and all three children have helped us deliver the summer schools along with a host of freelancers over the years.

This is the first year we will not be running them and we will miss them. We will miss that injection of perspective, creativity, insight, thought & compassion which the young people bring each year.

We will miss being silly, laughing hysterically and being reminded how to play. We will miss seeing the value in each drama game, exercise and exchange as each individual young person’s confidence and that of the group increases as the week goes by.

We will miss seeing the impact of introducing young people to drama, theatre and Shakespeare. We will miss the final day when all the parents and carers and families come to see what they have been up to in that village hall, school hall or venue for a whole week and they are aglow with pride and admiration for their young people who they suddenly see in a different light so proudly showing them their new friends, their model boxes, their scene they did just an hour before, their game they’ve loved best, their costume design or just the space where they had lunch and played at lunchtime when it was too wet to go to the park.

We will miss the ones who have come every year and grown up with our summer schools and the ones who came just once and the ones we were yet to meet. We will miss you all.

We hope as the lock down eases young people everywhere will be able to enjoy the summer safe and free of fear & anxiety. We hope we will be back next year. In the meantime take Care & Stay Safe
